I joined the tour at Oldham (and left at Rochdale) and it then went for a blast up to Edinburgh via the WCML, including a superb standing start climb of Beatock. With the daylight being so short, I only managed to grab a few phots. Saturday 3 January 2009: My first 40 tour for some time and what a way to clear out the post Christmas cobwebs. ]]> Mon Feb 11 2008 The West Highlander http://christrains.fotopic.net/c1359400.html The CFPS and SRPS took 40145 in it's new Large Logo livery from Carlisle to Fort William via the GSW and West Highland line. Unfortunately, delays getting onto the WHL meant a late arrival in Fort William and no time to run around (in fact little time to get food, etc), so the back up loco, 57601 took over from Fort Bill to Craigendoran. Here 145 was able to run round and complete the trip back to Carlisle. A very long, but very enjoyable day. We had over 5 hours at the destination, so the option of a return trip on the Vale of Rheidol was taken (before visiting the pub and curry shop!). The return route was a reversal of the outward. However, due to flooding on the line near Swindon, the train was diverted via Reading West and the Berks & Hants to Westbury. After having chance to watch the first half of England's rugby international against South Africa, the tour returned via Southampton, Guildford, Acton Central, Wembley and High Wycombe to rejoin the outward route at Aynho Junction. A long day for the mileage, but one which will alweays be remembered.
